Terms of Service

Thank you for using ardlex. When we say "ardlex", "we", "our", or "us" in this document, we are referring to ardlex, the Service. By accessing or using ardlex, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. Please read them carefully. If you do not agree to these Terms, please stop using the Service.

Account Terms

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and password. ardlex cannot and will not be liable for any loss or damage resulting from your failure to comply with this security obligation.

You are responsible for all content posted to and activity that occurs under your account, whether done so by you or any third party.

You must be a human to create an account. Accounts registered by automated methods are not permitted.

You must be at least 13 years of age to use this Service. If you are under 13, please do not register or use the Service.

You may not use the Service if your account has been previously terminated by us for violation of these Terms.

What ardlex Does

ardlex is an AI-powered English vocabulary learning platform. It helps users memorize English words and phrases through anime-style comic flashcards generated by artificial intelligence.

The Service provides: AI comic flashcard generation, vocabulary card management and sharing, custom generation templates, and caption editing tools.

Subscription Plans and Credits

ardlex offers the following plans. All prices are in US dollars:

Free Plan

  • Access to your existing generation history;
  • Browse publicly shared flashcards from other users;
  • No credits included — cannot create new AI generation tasks.

Pro Subscription — $15 / month

  • 92,000 subscription credits are granted automatically at the start of each billing cycle. Any unused subscription credits expire at the end of the cycle and do not roll over to the next month;
  • If your subscription is canceled, expires, or otherwise loses access, the remaining unused subscription credits from the current cycle are forfeited;
  • Ability to create AI generation tasks and purchase credit packs;
  • Subscription renews monthly automatically. You may cancel at any time; service remains active until the end of the current paid period, after which the account reverts to the Free plan.

Credit Pack — $7 (one-time)

  • One-time purchase of 47,000 credits; available to Pro subscribers only;
  • Credit pack credits do not expire and are not affected by the start, end, or cancellation of any subscription cycle. They remain in your balance as long as your account is active;
  • Credit pack credits are combined with subscription credits in your total balance, but are consumed only after all subscription credits have been used (see consumption order below).

Consumption Order

When you generate, credits are deducted in the following order, regardless of the order in which they were obtained:

  1. Subscription credits are consumed first, with credits from earlier billing cycles consumed before credits from later cycles;
  2. Credit pack credits are consumed only after all subscription credits have been exhausted, with earlier-purchased packs consumed before later-purchased packs.

This ordering ensures your monthly subscription credits are used before they expire, while purchased credit packs remain safely in your balance for as long as possible.

Credits are used to pay for AI generation tasks. The exact amount consumed varies depending on the model, parameters, and generation steps. Credits are non-transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash.

Payment, Refunds, and Plan Changes

All payments are processed through Creem, a third-party payment platform. If you are upgrading from a free plan to a paid plan, we will charge your card immediately.

If you cancel your subscription within 14 days of a charge, you are entitled to a pro-rata refund calculated as: (remaining subscription credits ÷ total subscription credits) × subscription fee paid. After 14 days, subscription fees are non-refundable. You may cancel auto-renewal at any time; cancellation does not affect access during the current paid period.

If you request a refund for a credit pack within 14 days of purchase, the refund amount is calculated as: (remaining credit pack credits ÷ total credit pack credits) × credit pack price paid. After 14 days, credit packs are non-refundable.

For the order in which credits are consumed during generation, see the "Consumption Order" subsection above.

If credits fail to be credited due to a system error on our end, or if you were charged multiple times due to a technical issue, please contact us within 30 days. We will investigate and compensate with additional credits or a refund as appropriate.

We reserve the right to adjust pricing. Any price changes will be communicated to you by email at least 30 days in advance.

Cancellation and Termination

Your right to cancel: You may cancel your subscription or delete your account at any time by contacting us. Upon account deletion, your data will be removed within a reasonable period, and any unused credits will be forfeited.

Our right to terminate: We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account and refuse any current or future use of the Service for any reason at any time. Such termination will result in the forfeiture and deletion of all content associated with your account.

Verbal, physical, written, or other abuse (including threats of abuse or retribution) of any ardlex user or staff member will result in immediate account termination.

AI-Generated Content

ardlex uses third-party AI models to generate story text, image descriptions, and images based on your inputs. You understand and agree that:

  • AI generation is inherently non-deterministic; the same input may produce different outputs;
  • We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or quality of generated content;
  • Generated content is for reference only and should not be treated as the sole basis for language learning;
  • AI providers may be updated or replaced; generation parameters shown in history represent a snapshot of what was used at the time.

Your Content and Ownership

Ownership: The words, definitions, and content you input — including flashcards you choose to share publicly — belong to you. We make no claim of ownership over your content.

License to us: By sharing content publicly, you grant ardlex a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display it within the platform. You may set any content to private at any time, revoking this license.

Our content: The ardlex brand, interface design, code, and all non-user-generated content are owned by us and protected by copyright and applicable laws.

You represent that content you upload or input does not infringe any third party's rights, and agree to indemnify us against any claims arising therefrom.

Prohibited Uses

When using the Service, you agree not to:

  • Generate, distribute, or store any unlawful, infringing, pornographic, hateful, or defamatory content;
  • Use automated scripts, bots, or other means to circumvent the credit system or abuse the generation feature;
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems, databases, or other users' accounts;
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service;
  • Use the Service for commercial resale purposes, including bulk reselling of generated content to third parties;
  • Use the Service in any manner that may harm its availability or other users' experience.

Uptime, Security, and Privacy

We will make reasonable efforts to keep the Service available and secure, but we do not make any guarantees about uptime or error-free operation. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, upgrades, or circumstances beyond our control.

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied;
  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, punitive, or consequential damages or loss of profits, whether or not foreseeable;
  • Our total liability to you shall not exceed the greater of the total fees you actually paid us in the 12 months preceding your claim, or $100.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Revised Terms will be posted on this page with a new effective date. For material changes, we will notify you by email at least 14 days before they take effect.

Continued use of the Service after the notice period constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree, please stop using the Service and delete your account before the effective date.
